Modern Apprenticeship The qualification is accredited through the Scottish Qualifications Authority and Construction Skills CITB
Duration The apprenticeship scheme is run over 4 years with attendance at Shetland College.
Attendance at College There are video conference tutorials twice a week for two years. These are delivered by Perth and Moray Colleges. Or by attendance at Inverness College on block release over 2 years, 3 x three week blocks per year.
While in the workplace apprentices will build up a portfolio of evidence of their competence at work for the SVQ3 & submit this evidence to their assessor. The assessor will also observe the apprentice at work.
Typical work duties include: Surveying buildings and sites; computer aided drawing, liaising with contractors, checking the work done conforms to work allocated; input of data to keep track of finance, bills of quantities, register of work, writing reports, check the condition of property. Work is mostly office based with some site visits.
Personal qualities, skills and qualifications Ideally applicants should have Highers in subjects such as Maths, Graphic Design, Physics, Computing.
Applicants must have dedication and self discipline for home study. Have a mature outlook. Applicants must be physically able for the tasks involved in the job. |
