The qualification consists of:

• Higher National Certificate in Quantity Surveying
• SCQF 6 Construction Contracting Operations - Estimating
• If the job role is sufficient SCQF 9 Construction Contracting Operations - Quantity Surveying
• Career Skills
• Modern Apprenticeship in Construction Technical

Modern Apprenticeship:

• The qualification is accredited through the Scottish Qualifications Authority and CITB

Duration:

• The apprenticeship scheme is run over 4 years with attendance at Inverness College.

Attendance at College:

• Attendance at Inverness College on block release over 2 years, 3 x three week blocks per year
• Completion of portfolio of evidence in the workplace
• The assessor will usually visit every 8 weeks and will also observe the candidate at work

Typical work duties include:

Input of data to keep track of finance, bills of quantities, register of work, writing reports, liaising with staff on site including sub-contractors. Work is mostly office based with some site visits.

Personal Qualities, Skills and Qualifications

• Ideally applicants should have Highers in subjects such as Maths, Graphic design, Physics, Computing. Credit level National 5s (Standard Grades) may be acceptable but the candidate would then have to complete a National Certificate and then move on to Higher National Certificate
• Candidates must have dedications and self-discipline for home study
• Have a mature outlook and be physically able for the tasks involved in the job
